What are Knowledge Transfer Partnerships?

• Established in UK: 1975 • Structured programme to address strategic project • Partnership between Company and University • Improve company competitiveness, productivity & performance • Graduate employment • Part subsidised by the Government.

How do Knowledge Transfer Partnerships Work?

• Six months to three year programme • Full-time recent graduate based in the company • Two days per month academic support • Budgets for training, equipment and travel • University provides: – Administration/financial support during project – Access to Research & Development equipment and resources.

What are the Benefits of a KTP?

• Access to academic experts, and a graduate calibre project manager to deliver business objectives • Focused resource, output driven • Access to training and development budget • Strategic level project management that demonstrates real impact • Access to £700 for higher level degree support • Advanced career development

Graduate

• Employed by the University (Av salary £17-25k) • Based full-time within company • Adopts company working hours, holiday allowance • Has access to University resources as a member of staff.

• Knowledge Exchange & Enterprise Network (KEEN): Lead organisation driving the West Midlands Knowledge Transfer agenda. Responsible for a c£24 million project to create 175 graduate / business projects in the region.

(Partnering with the 11 other regional Universities, Technology Strategy Board, and European Regional Development Fund).
