Education, School Systems, My Future Career

The Czech System of Education

School attendance • From 6 to 15 • Compulsory for all children

Types of schools • State – free of charge • Private – they charge fees • Church • All schools are coeducational • No uniforms

Educatuin in the CR has these stages: • Pre-school • Primary • Secondary • Tertiary

Students are evaluated by: • Marks from 1 (the best) to 5 (the worst) • They get a school report • Compulsory and optional subjects

Pre – school education • Creches • Nursery schools • Kindergartens Children play with other children, they learn to socialise

Primary schools • At 6 years of age • Reading, writing, counting,… • They stay there till 15

Secondary Education • Entrance examination • At the age of 15 • They can choose among a variety of sec. schools

Types of secondary schools: • Grammar schools: general and rather academic education, prepares for university • Special schools: business academies, nursing schools,… • Vocational training: for practical jobs

School Leaving Examination • 4 subjects (Czech, a foreign language and two optional subjects) • Written and oral part • School Leaving Certificate • Many changes starting 2010

Tertiary Education • Entrance examination • 3-5 years of study • Free of charge

Degrees: • Bachelor´s Degree (Bc.) • Master´s Degree (Mgr., Ing.) • Doctoral Degree (Ph.D)
