Title of Project: Comparison of Performance Based Design (PBD) with the Building Code of
Pakistan (BCP-Seismic Provisions 2007)

Students Group: Waqal Saleem, Sohain Naseer and Israr-ul-Haq
Objectives: To compare the PBD and BCP and their reliability for seismic design for the redesign of an existing building for new seismic performance.
Methodology: The existing 6 storey building constructed at Bahria Town will be analyzed
for seismic design using both the performance based parameters and PBC provisions. Etab and SAP-2000 will be used for design and the results will compared on the basis of
base shear and building drift.
Tests/Models: 3D analysis models will be prepared on the basis of both the rationale.
Expected Results/Outcomes: - The degree of reliability of the PBD and PBC will be
compared.

- Recommendations for further research to the Building Code Formulation committee of
Ministry of Housing and Works
