How can Parents help?
• The best help is taking an interest in your
child’s learning and progress.
• Supporting homework approximately 30
minutes per evening.
• Ensuring children arrive for school:
• everyday
• in good time
• have a good breakfast
• go to bed at a reasonable time
How can I help my child?
• There are many other ways you can help your child do
well at school.
• Make sure you know what homework is set and
encourage your child to do it thoroughly.
• Encourage your child to read every evening to build up
reading stamina. Remember it is good to read before
going to sleep, much better than looking at a screen
which affects children switching off and going to sleep.
• Even when children are reading fluently it is important for
them to talk about what they are reading, to build up their
confidence in answering comprehension questions;
building up a picture of the character, setting, main
points, themes etc.
What are we doing in school?
We are preparing the children in their lessons
through enjoyable revision topics such as: Dr Who
and Survival. In addition we:
• promote test techniques.
• run intervention groups in the afternoons, giving
specific support.
• hold booster groups to maximise children’s
opportunity to reach their potential.
• self assessment and opportunity for reflection
to identify strengths and weaknesses in own
learning.
Resources
• Good products on market eg. CGP, Rising Stars
• Revise guides for English and Maths bought by Mrs
