Report from COSS-TT (PDM & VK)
• Objective: coordination of coastal ocean forecasting systems with
clearly defined set of activities (and time lines)
• focus/prioritise; get most advanced teams to collaborate
• Driver analogous to GHRSST and Argo for GODAE?
– prepare for SWOT, need for complementarity of in situ ob
(HF radar, coastal observatories, cal/val sites, etc.)
– evaluation of coast-specific altimetry products
– improving regional atmospheric forecasts (Gulf of St
Lawrence), coupled modelling
– assessment strategies, error bars
• COSST/CSSWG workshop, U Miami, 10-12 Jan 2012, focus on
model assessment
– initiate pilot projects
GOVST-3, Paris, 15-18 November 2011
Report from MEP-TT (PB)
Activities in 2010/2011:
• Completion of TT membership
• No meeting in 2011 but informal discussions between members re
obs design, bgc modelling, assimilation
• Workshop, likely 28/29 Feb 2012
– Future focus: What is predictability of marine ecosystem?
– Proposed activities:
• intercomparison of MEP systems
• value of ocean colour observations (CD)
