On 24 October 2007, following ratification by all Members, the ITER Agreement
entered into force and officially established the ITER Organization.
ITER - “International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor”
also means “way, trip” from latin “iter, itineris”
also means “repetition” from latin “iteratio”
We could “translate” that power is obtained through
a process of repetitively plasma confinement
of a DT mixture

The "closed DT loop" fuelling cycle of ITER
The plasma exhaust is removed and processed through
an isotope separation system that extracts out the
fusion fuels for reinjection into the fuelling cycle.

o ICIT TRF is a cycle for heavy water detritiation with a catalytic isotope exchange module,

With this experimental set-up was determined
the separation performances of a full list of
commercial and non-commercial packages with
different configurations
Also there were studied two different tritium
extraction system for the cryogenic columns,
one with calibrated vessel volumes and another
one with active charcoal cryo-trap and
molecular sieve bed.

A) ITER/CT/09/4300000087 “Development of method for highly tritiated water handling in
ITER Tritium Plant. Phase-1”
D1 Report on the detailed assessment of technology comprising process block
diagram;

D3 Feasibility study of proposed technology diagram
B) Finalization of the system capacity, enhancements studies and detailed design
of WDS components including HAZOP studies - F4E-2010-GRT-045 (PNSVTP)
1. R&D to complete the design of Liquid Phase Catalytic Exchange (LPCE)
2. Conceptual design and PFD for WDS, HAZOP study, Design review , provisional cost estimate
of WDS;
