Taj Mahal was built in Agra (U.P.), India.
Taj Mahal considered one of the most beautiful
monument in the world.
Construction started: 1631
22 yrs
Construction ended: 1653
Why: in the memory of Mumtaj Mahal.
It took 20,000 labors for the construction and 1,000
elephants for transportation of materials from allover
the India. It took 28 different varieties of semi- and
precious stones, and lot more.
The best artisans (stonecutter, etc) and finest white
marble used for the design of Taj Mahal.
He ordered his men to cut the hands of the workers
so that there would not be any other such
monument.
Taj Mahal has a romantic story, of Shah Jahan
and Mumtaz Mahal, behind it.
Prince khurram(1592-1666)-known as Shah Jahan
after the battle. He was a son of Jahangir and
grandson of Akbar. Also he was a 5th Mughal of
India (1628-58).
Anjumand Banu Begum(1593-1631): known as
Mumtaz Mahal (means: beloved ornament of the
palace), she was empress of India during the
Mughal dynasty.
They married in 1612
Shah Jahan’s promise of building the Taj Mahal to
his wife.
