Judges Meeting

• There are three different Judging Evaluation Sheets for the different categories—Bible, General, Original Speech • Characterization (General Categories) is to “paint a picture” of what is being said.
• Gestures are not expected; however do not mark down for their use or deletion.
• Per ACSI—do NOT deduct for speech issues/articulation.
• Deductions of Points – 1 point per event “rule” – Fable and Folklore MUST have a moral (1) – Bible MUST have reference, version and meaning at the end (3) – Original Speech must have topic and title (2)

• Do Dramatic Bible Prose before Patriotic Oration • Do Bible selections before Poetry selections if in the same room • Original Speech judges read copy of speech before presentations, place in folder after reading
Judging in the Rooms

• Decide who is going to be Head Judge in your room • Pray in room before beginning competition.
• Can move the “x” tape to another spot if needed • Head Judge needs to remind families: – No camera/video (wait until after meet) – Turn off cell phones – Make sure parent of participant in room – Gather and staple student score sheets prior to leaving

• Specific seats for judges towards the back • Invite students in and seat them according to number (Door monitors do this) • Review rules for participants prior to starting selections • Do not be too talkative amongst yourselves • Give full attention to students—ask all students to stand for applause at the end • Your call to ask disruptions to leave the room • Dismiss back to Dunbar Gym • ***Parents with multiple siblings may need to notify judges prior to start of meet

• Please take time to make positive comments on the score sheets • Complete two or three students and confer before continuing • Do not discuss judging with students or parents
Tabulating Scores and Assigning Ribbons
• Judges return to Judge’s room (do not just send a door monitor) with all paperwork • Scores will be tabulated and ribbons assigned by the tabulation crew • Get ribbons to fill out prior to presenting—you must fill out your own, see sample • Please leave judging sheets in the Judge’s room (school representative will pick these up) • Please fill out ribbon shortage sheet if necessary • Let (Mary Flamm) know when finished (announce to families to return to room) • Take a program at that time if you would like one • Return to room and make ribbon presentations

Reminders
• Give full attention to students, then score and SMILE! At the end, have all students stand to receive applause.
• Use Judge #1, #2, #3—not initials • These students are “best of the best”, but not professionals • What would you do if they “froze”?
• Make evaluation marks light so you can erase more easily • School coordinator / representative will pick up judging sheets. Tell us who that is before you leave for judging.
• Changes-wait a few minutes in judges’ room.
