engineering colleges
• Quality Enhancement in Engineering Education
for 500 colleges other than IITs and NITs
– Focus initially on TEQUIP colleges (1.2 and 1.1)
• Direct to Student Program
• Teacher training Program
• Regulatory and Policy Reforms
• Pilot for 100 college from January 2013
– an application through the web-site:

– Delivered live to classrooms in 100 colleges (course-faculty
to be present along with students)
– Some interaction between students and faculty
– Satellite + Broadband ensures high quality video/ audio
• Features like whiteboard, document / screen sharing, questions
etc. for interaction
• assisted by 2-3 TAs for efficient response to questions

e-Tutorials
• Introductory Course on Computer
Programming
– Remote Tutor facilitates problem solving /lab for a
small group (20-30 students)
• conducts the session at scheduled-time using features
like video chat, video sync, white board, document /
screen sharing
• 90 minute session per week
– Assuming a tutor spends 6 hours a week, need about 50
tutors (senior student + industry persons) for 100 colleges
e-LABS
• 3 to 4 e-Labs providing a “near real” lab experience
– Associated with each lab, there may be
• Live lectures
• e-book*: lab instruction consisting of
– introduction to concept (text and video)
– Instructions (text and video)
– pre and post quiz
• Live remote support using e-tutorials framework by lab-tutors
–
–
–
–
DSP Programming Lab (IITM)
Heat Transfer and Thermodynamics
Analog Circuits Lab
Mass Transfer Lab
• A lab-tutor can handle 5 colleges simultaneously per session
• 10 lab-tutors for 100 colleges if tutor to handle two sessions
*e-books: text and multimedia interactive content woven together along with
–
Features like notes, references and translate, forum, chat
Vocational Augmentation Courses
• Introduction to Embedded Systems using
Robotics
• Secure, Managed, Wifi Networking
– Both courses by IITM
– Conducted using
•
•

•
Live classes
e-book based instruction manual
Live Remote support from instructors using e-tutorial
2 students trained in person to be facilitators at each college
MOOC
• Three MOOC Courses
– One by MIT
– One by Microsoft Research Labs, Bangalore
– One by IITM
