1: Give an Example of hot air rising to
create lift. Explain why this happens
 An example of hot air rising to create lift is a
hot air balloon
 A hot air balloon can fly because when air is
heated, it rises. The balloon traps the hot
air. Eventually, the air heats up and rises
enough that its “push” up on the balloon is
greater than the pull of gravity. It flies!
2. Which property of air is being
demonstrated
 A: Air has mass
 B: Air moves around
3. State Bernoulli’s Principle in your
own words.
 Bernoulli’s Principle states that faster
moving air has less pressure (or pushes
less) on an object than slower moving air.

that illustrate Bernoulli’s Principle.

5. Describe the 4 forces acting on
flying devices.
1. Thrust: propels the device forward
2. Drag: slows the device down as it moves
through the air
3. Lift: keeps the device in the air
4. Gravity: pull the device toward the Earth

 B. Taking part in sports: wear equipment
that is aerodynamic (air passes over easily)

fly when it is windy.

10. Describe one safety precaution that you
practiced when learning about air and flight.
 Do not fly flight devices in the direction of
other students. Always find an open area to
test a flying device.
