1. ERTMS Deployment in Worldwide:
where are we?
(UNIFE Statistics on ERTMS Worldwide deployment, 2014)
Worldwide ERTMS Investment
Total track km: 76100
42 Countries are using
ETCS trackside
Total No vehicles: 9462
39 Countries are using
ERTMS vehicles
The global picture
 ERTMS market is increasingly global

ERTMS investments in Europe
Small EU Member States are
constantly increasing ERTMS
deployment
Some CEE MS have started to
deploy ERTMS in their network,
however slow take up despite
the available funds
Belgium doubled the track km
equipped with ERTMS since the
beginning of 2012
Significant increase in the
number of vehicles equipped
with ERTMS thanks to
investments in Western Europe
e.g. Switzerland and Germany
ERTMS investments outside Europe
China is in the leading position
on ERTMS deployment
Significant investment plans
have been contracted in the
Maghreb countries
New regions such as South
America are deploying ERTMS
The conventional network of
Taiwan is fully ERTMS equipped
ERTMS coverage is

- China (High-speed program)
- Saudi Arabia (Mecca High-speed)
- Turkey

ERTMS continuous development
and marketing effort
The acceleration of ERTMS deployment in Europe is the
priority
And UNIFE welcomes Connecting Europe Facility: budget
allocated to ERTMS is between 700 m - 1.1 bn EUR
UNIFE pushes the development and promotion of
ERTMS/ETCS as THE global signalling solution, with
dedicated actions together with the Commission and
ERA in U.S., Brazil, Asia and Golf Countries
SHIFT2RAIL will further reinforce this position by bracing technical
solutions to enhance the system to encompass the worldwide needs
