PROCEDURES
• ANNOUCEMENTS WILL BE MADE OVER THE PA SYSTEM
REGARDING SHELTER-IN OR LOCK DOWN
• ALL TEACHERS WILL HAVE A RED FOLDER WITH DETAILS OF
EVACUATION SITES AND ASSEMBLY CARDS- THESE FOLDERS
SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH YOU FOR ALL FIRE DRILLS
• FOLDERS SHOULD BE ACCESSIBLE TO ANY TEACHER WHO IS IN
THE ROOM AT THE TIME OF EMERGENCY- NOT LOCKED AWAY
• DURING FIRE DRILLS, EMERGENCIES, BRT MEMBERS WILL BE
IN VESTS FOR EASY IDENTIFICATION

•TEACHERS LOCK CLASSROOM DOORS, TURN OFF LIGHTS, CHECK OUTSIDE ROOM FOR ANY
STUDENTS
•ENTRANCES/ EXITS TO THE SCHOOL ARE OPEN FOR SUPPORT PERSONNEL
•IGNORE FIRE DRILL BELL IN THESE SITUATIONS IF LOCK DOWN HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED
•WAIT FOR ALL CLEAR MESSAGE
EVACUATION
•MUST LEAVE THE BUILDING, POSSIBLY RELOCATE
•TAKE RED FOLDER, INCLUDING CLASS ROSTERS
•ASSEMBLE IN SCHOOL YARD UNLESS DIRECTED OTHERWISE
•HOLD UP ONE OF THE CARDS TO INDICATE STATUS
•RELOCATION SITES LISTED IN FOLDER- PRINCIPAL MAKES

• ADVISORY PERIODS
• FOR REGENTS CLASSES- HARRIS AND MONTGOMERY WILL
CONDUCT TRAINING

• MUST BE AWARE OF TERMINOLOGY, SYMBOLS AND
PROTOCOLS

Evacuate: ( Fire Alarm or Directions)
Students: Leave your items behind.
Students: Form a line, remain quiet and listen to directions from your teacher.
Teacher: Lead students to evacuation location and take attendance.
Teacher: Notify BRT/SSA staff if there are missing, extra, or injured students.
Teacher: Remind students that the use of electronic devices is prohibited.
Lockdown: ( Soft or Hard Lockdown)
Students: Remain silent and quickly move out of sight and away from the door.
Teacher: Quickly retrieve any students in hallway and lock the classroom door.
Teacher: Wait for responders to open the door (or) await the “all clear” announcement:
“The lockdown has been lifted.”
Shelter- In: (The threat is outside of the building)
Students: Remain inside the building and follow directions of staff.
Teacher: Increase situational awareness.
Teacher: Conduct business as usual.
Teacher: Follow all announced directions.
Remember: No one will be permitted to enter or leave the building during a Shelter- In.
