Qur’an (Koor·AHN) holy
book, told Muslims to
celebrate

Dhu al-Hijjah, the 12th

Prophet Ibrahim lived over 4,000 years ago in
what is known as the Beccah valley in present
day Saudi Arabia.
Muslims believe the Prophet Ibrahim was told
by Allah (God) in a series of dreams to
sacrifice his only beloved son, Isma’il.
He was a man of great faith
At the last moment, Allah replaced his son
with a ram.
Many Muslims celebrate Eid
by:
Attending Eid Prayers
Sacrificing an animal; giving a portion of its
meat in charity or giving money to the poor
Giving gifts or money
to children
Gathering with family
Attending special
events or parties
Wearing new
clothes
Women sometimes dye
their hands with henna
