Journée internationale de commémoration des victimes du crime de génocide
La Convention sur la prévention et la répression du crime de génocide a été adoptée il y a 68 ans jour
pour jour. Le vice-premier Ministre et Ministre des Affaires étrangères Didier Reynders rend
hommage aux victimes de génocide en cette Journée internationale de commémoration des victimes,
d’affirmation de leur dignité et de prévention de ce crime.
En commémorant les victimes du passé nous attestons que de telles cruautés ne nous laissent pas
indifférents et que nous n’oublierons pas ces événements. Aujourd’hui, nous voulons réaffirmer notre
détermination à prévenir de telles cruautés à l’avenir.
Les nombreuses crises de longue durée, dans diverses parties du monde, nous rappellent que nous
avons encore un long chemin à parcourir si nous voulons que la prévention devienne réalité. La lutte
contre l’impunité de crimes internationaux constitue ici un élément crucial et est une priorité pour la
Belgique. Le Ministre Didier Reynders a souligné à plusieurs reprises, à l’intention de la communauté
internationale, la nécessité de poursuivre les atrocités de Daesh. La Belgique, en collaboration avec
d’autres partenaires, est également active pour promouvoir la coopération judiciaire internationale
dans ce domaine.
La Belgique travaille en étroite collaboration avec le Bureau du Conseiller spécial du Secrétaire
général des Nations Unies pour la prévention du génocide et en appelle à un véritable engagement
international pour prévenir les conflits violents et le génocide.
Internationale dag voor herdenking en waardigheid van slachtoffers van genocide
Vandaag 68 jaar geleden werd het Verdrag over de Voorkoming en de Bestraffing van Genocide
aangenomen. Vicepremier en minister van Buitenlandse Zaken Didier Reynders brengt hulde aan de
slachtoffers van genocide op deze Internationale Dag voor de herdenking en de waardigheid van de
slachtoffers.
Door hen te herdenken, toont ons land dat het de gruwel nooit zal vergeten. België blijft vastberaden
om dergelijke wreedheden te blijven helpen voorkomen.
De vele aanhoudende crisissen in verschillende delen van de wereld herinneren eraan dat er nog een
lange weg af te leggen is om die wreedheden uit te sluiten. De strijd tegen straffeloosheid voor
internationale misdaden is een cruciaal element en is dus voor België een prioriteit. Didier Reynders
heeft de nood om de gruweldaden van Daesh te vervolgen herhaaldelijk onder de aandacht van de
internationale gemeenschap gebracht. Samen met andere partners zet België zich in om de
internationale gerechtelijke samenwerking daarvoor te bevorderen.
Ons land werkt nauw samen met het Bureau van de speciale adviseur van de secretaris-generaal van de
Verenigde Naties voor de preventie van Genocide en het blijft pleiten voor een internationaal
engagement om gewelddadige conflicten en genocide te voorkomen.
International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide
68 years ago, the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the crime of Genocide was
adopted. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders pays tribute to the
victims of genocide on this International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the
Crime of Genocide and the Prevention of this Crime.
By commemorating the victims of the past, we show that such atrocities do not let us indifferent and
that we will never forget these events. Today we reaffirm our determination to prevent such atrocities
in the future.
The many protracted crises in different parts of the world remind us that we still have a long way to go
if we want to make prevention a reality. The fight against impunity for international crimes is therefore
a crucial element and a priority for Belgium. Minister Reynders has repeatedly brought the need to
prosecute the atrocities of Daesh to the attention of the international community. Together with other
partners Belgium is also committed to actively promote international judicial cooperation in this
regard.
Belgium is working closely with the Office of the UN Special Adviser to the Secretary General on the
Prevention of Genocide and calls for a genuine international commitment to prevent violent conflict
and genocide.
