Graduation Requirements
Implementation of new graduation plans
O 2013-2014
O Seniors can switch to new foundation plan, if it will impact
graduation
O 2014-2015
O All 9th graders will be required to:
O Meet foundation requirements
O Select at least one endorsement to pursue (in writing)
O Have a Personal Graduation Plan that has parental approval
O 10th-12th graders can:
O Remain on current minimum/recommended/distinguished
plans
O Transition to foundation plan with an endorsement

Graduation Requirements
O Students may choose more than one
endorsement, if offered by the
district.
O A district must permit a student to
choose, at any time, to earn an
endorsement other than the
endorsement the student previously
indicated.

the Foundation program, but did add
section in 74.11 (a)(3) for
communication skills

Graduation Requirements
A student may graduate under the foundation
high school program WITHOUT an endorsement
if, AFTER the student’s sophomore year:
1. the student and the student’s parent are advised by a
school counselor of the specific benefits of graduating
with one or more endorsements, and
2. written permission is signed by the parents, on a form
adopted by TEA.

O There are multiple pathways to fulfill
endorsement requirements
O School district defines advanced courses
and determines a coherent sequence,
provided that prerequisites are followed
O A course used to satisfy an endorsement
requirement may also be used to satisfy
a foundation/elective requirement

O Algebra II was highly recommended
for college-bound students at a recent
subcommittee meeting by Vernon
College.

Public Service Endorsements
CTE route to an endorsement:
O Requires four or more CTE credits
O Two of these courses must be in the same
career cluster
O One of these courses must be advanced (3rd or
higher course in a sequence)
O The final course in a sequence must be from
the student’s chosen career cluster
O TEA recommends using similar models, as in
the past
O Additional language clarification coming from
TEA in the form of a FAQ

which Algebra II is a prerequisite
