PRESS RELEASE
Milano, 1 November, 2016 - Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena notes the decision by Dott. Corrado
Passera to withdraw his proposal of 13 October. The proposal was non-binding, and made on
behalf of unidentified investors, so could not be regarded as “firm”.
In light of this, the Board of Directors regrets Dott. Passera’s decision which it considers to be
based on unfounded arguments incompatible with the requirements of the Bank to ensure equal
disclosure among its potential investors and to maintain control over the release of information to
them. These are principles established by the applicable legislation which moreover have been
fully accepted by other investors who have shown interest, and assume even greater significance
in view of the imminent public offer on behalf of the Bank.
Finally, with reference to the dialogue with the supervisory authorities, the Bank confirms that it has
kept national and supranational regulators continuously updated from the very start with regards to
Dott. Passera’s proposal for their evaluation.
