On October 24th the Istituto centrale per i beni sonori ed audiovisivi (ICBSA) will show the Italian contribution to the
Europeana Sounds Project in its Auditorium in Rome. The project promotes the access and the enrichment of the
Europeana sound heritage.
The event named “FOR A EUROPEAN PHONOGRAPHIC COLLECTION THE ITALIAN CONTRIBUTION TO EUROPEANA
SOUNDS PROJECT (2014-2017)” is organised in cooperation with the Istituto Centrale per il Catalogo Unico delle
biblioteche italiane e per le informazioni bibliografiche, project partner, and involves experts in various fields.
During the speeches there will be also the opportunity to listen to the soundtracks, through a short journey in the
wide Italian “soundscapes”, and discover more than 83,000 sounds recordings that ICBSA, through Europeana
Sounds (http://www.europeanasounds.eu), made available on the Europeana portal (http://www.europeana.eu), the
European digital library.
The presentation of the Europeana Sounds Project and of the precious sound materials preserved by ICBSA will touch
various topics: from the general framework of the valorisation initiatives of cultural heritage to the Italian
phonographic production of the first half of twentieth century, from music laws to the new frontiers of contemporary
music, from the relation between music and cinema to the emergence of the Italian music libraries.
Among the speakers, there are the Directors of both the Institutes, Simonetta Buttò (ICCU) and Massimo Pistacchi
(ICBSA), along with musicians, music critics, sound technicians , and other professionals in this field as illustrated in
the attached programme.
This initiative, promoted by Europeana Sounds project, started in 2014, is part of a series of (re)discovery events,
with the aim of presenting to the wide public the masterpieces digitised by the project partners and provided to
Europeana, the European cultural heritage portal.
