URBAN CENSUS ASSIGNMENT
 Learning Objectives:
 1. The student will improve his or her spatial thinking by creating
maps of important demographic variables; the student will likewise
consider why the spatial patterns are present in the maps.
 2. The student will learn how to access and analyze primary data
sources, specifically U.S. Census Bureau data.
 3. Through the field observation component, the student will make
connections between data that is “on paper” and what is actually
happening in the real world.

 Outcomes
 “A field observation made everything more clear to me. It summed up
what I saw in the data. It is a lot different to actually experience it
firsthand then to just see the data. You could say an area is very nice
but not fully understand it until you experience it. If you see pictures
of a place you can never truly understand it and appreciate it until
you been there for yourself. I enjoyed doing the field observation
because it made getting the above information [Parts A-C] more
necessary.” (Student, Winter 2013)
