What are our sponsor duties?
Monitor student engagement
• Identify 10 “contact points” during an academic year (supervisory
meetings, annual progress review, viva etc)
Changes to a student’s circumstances
• Non-registration/delayed start
• Withdrawal
• Research furth of Glasgow
• Registry update UKVI of a change to study location
• Approved absence or suspension of studies
- Continue visa sponsorship for absences of up to 60 days
• Intention to submit (submission & estimated viva dates used for visa
extensions)

Tier 4 (Doctorate Extension Scheme)
- Introduced in April 2013. UofG uptake:

Immigration Act 2014
- Removal of Right of Appeal, introduced the Immigration Health

Biometric Residence Permits – March to July 2015

Extending a student visa - November 2015
Removal of established presence
< 12/11/2015: £1,640 required
> 12/11/2015: typically £9,135 required
Work placements:
Tier 4 students can
undertake a work
placement, provided it
is an “integral and
assessed part of the
course”
If neither integral nor
assessed, the 20hours p/w work limit
would apply end.
