Two surveys with the goal to collect cost related
information:
•Cost assessment of production of official statistics in the
EU Member States,
Candidate and EFTA countries developed by Eurostat.
•Income Generation survey on current practices and future
intentions in the NSIs to generate income - survey
developed by ONS UK

production costs - Objectives
• to better assess the resources used for
production of official statistics by NSIs and
ONAs
• to follow the overall trend of the funding
allocated for the production of official statistics
• allow making comparisons between the ESS as
a whole and other statistical infrastructures in
the world

• The survey results cannot yet be used to
compare the countries
• Further methodological work is needed so that
the results are reliable
• Definition

European/national statistics; NSIs (including
regional statistical offices, ONAs; FTE or head
count, etc.

Cost collection
Catalogue 2016 (=product list) will be used
Timeframe
Pilot phase with volunteering NSIs on selected products
until May 2016; main phase starts in September and
results will be available end of 2017.
