WHAT IS DUAL ENROLLMENT?
Dual enrollment is an acceleration program
that allows high school students to
simultaneously earn credit toward high
school completion and a career certificate,
or an associate or baccalaureate degree
at a Florida public postsecondary institution.
Florida Statute 1007.271 defines the Dual
Enrollment program.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?
•
Students must have completed at least one high school level
course and have a minimum 3.0 cumulative, unweighted High
School GPA in for College programs
•
2.0 cumulative, unweighted High School GPA for Vocational
Programs.
•
There are no exceptions to the minimum high school GPA
requirement.
•
Fifth year seniors are not permitted to participate in the dual
enrollment program.
•
Required SAT, ACT, or P.E.R.T scores for College Credit (can use
combination), TABE scores for Vocational Programs.

Students need to be mature enough to work without
constant supervision. Remember, any grade the student
earns in a Dual Enrollment class counts toward both the
college and high school GPA. The grade earned becomes a
permanent part of the student’s college transcript.
TESTING RULES



Post-Secondary Readiness Test (P.E.R.T.) – Students
may have no more than two attempts taking the
P.E.R.T. at the college.
Initial Test - Can be taken at the college
Retest – All students must attend at least one
semester of high school between attempts. A retest
form from an Academic Advisor will be required for
the retest.
DUAL ENROLLMENT
COLLEGE COURSE SELECTION
College course (s):

Must be three or four credits

Must count toward high school diploma (either as required
classes or elective hours)

Must be approved by the High School Counselor

Students cannot take private lessons (such as music)

Must count toward the college degree the student is
seeking.

Students must complete General Education requirements
before they take electives. Exceptions to this would be
SLS1122 or any course that is a university pre-requisite for the
student’s intended bachelor’s degree major.

All dual enrolled students are limited to no more than 15
total college credit hours per semester in the fall and
spring.

In the summer semester students are limited to no more
than 2 classes in each six week semester for a total of no
more than 14 credit hours. Most college classes are 3
credit hours and we allowed 2 extra for labs.
ONLINE COURSES
Dual Enrollment students are permitted to take one online
college course in each 15 week college semester at
Daytona State.
They may take hybrid or mixed courses
GRADE PROCEDURES
•
If a student earns an “F” or “FN” grade he/she is no
longer permitted to participate in the dual enrollment
program.
•
If a student earns a “D” grade he/she will be permitted
to retake that course only in the next semester(if the
student meets both the high school and college GPA
requirements). Once the course grade is posted the
college and school district will review the grade and
determine if future dual enrollment participation will be
permitted.
•
If a student withdraws twice he/she will not be permitted
to continue to participate in dual enrollment.
REQUIREMENTS FOR CONTINUED DUAL
ENROLLMENT
Dual Enrollment is a privilege meant to help
students complete some of their college
coursework before they graduate from high
school. To continue to participate students
must meet the following requirements:
 Maintain
a 3.0 or higher unweighted high
school GPA.
 Maintain
a 2.0 or better overall college GPA.
COLLEGIATE HIGH SCHOOL

Collegiate high school is a
form of dual enrollment that
is mandated by 1007.273
Florida Statutes.

Collegiate High School is an
Early Admissions Program

Students must be in the 11th
or 12th grade to participate
in the Collegiate High School
program
COLLEGIATE HIGH SCHOOL

Students must have a 3.2 unweighted high school
GPA to be eligible to participate in the program.

Students must qualify for ENC1101 and MAC1105
on the P.E.R.T., SAT, or ACT.

Students must complete an application for
admission to the program.

Once admitted students must attend a
mandatory orientation during the summer and
sign a contract.

Students in AS programs will be eligible to earn Cape Industry
Certifications
COLLEGIATE HIGH SCHOOL

Students will be required to take 15-16 credits in the fall and
spring semesters. Some students will be required to take
summer courses.

Students who start in 11th grade and successfully complete all
required courses will graduate with the degree they are
seeking at the same time they graduate from high school.

Students will be monitored by a college staff member and must
meet with the staff member every semester.
CONTINUATION IN THE
PROGRAM

Students who earn an “F” in Collegiate high
school will no longer be eligible to participate.

Students who earn a “D” and meet the GPA
requirements will be eligible to continue in the
regular dual enrollment program.

Students must maintain a minimum 3.2
unweighted high school GPA and 2.5 cumulative
college GPA.

Students who withdraw from a class will be
moved to regular dual enrollment.
OTHER THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

Federal Rights to Education Privacy Act (FERPA)

The College will not register, drop, or withdraw a dual
enrollment student if the student is not present.

Dual Enrollment courses count in both the High School and
College GPA and are part of the student’s permanent record.

Dual Enrollment grades are weighted the same as IB and AP
courses in the high school GPA.

Students cannot take remedial course work while they are
Dual Enrolled.

Excess hours
BEHAVIORAL REQUIREMENTS

In addition, the following behavioral requirement is now
addressed in F.S. 1007.271(3)
Regardless of meeting student eligibility requirements for
continued enrollment, a student may lose the opportunity to
participate in a dual enrollment course if the student is disruptive
to the learning process such that the progress of other students or
the efficient administration of the course is hindered. Students in
these situations will also be subject to the college disciplinary
process.
REQUIREMENTS

Please note that the state statute and
the college/school district Dual
Enrollment Articulation Agreement
change every year.

Current students are not grandfathered
in when the rules change. If there is a
change it will apply to any student that
is dual enrolled.


THE PROCESS FOR DUAL ENROLLMENT

See your High School Counselor

Both Parent and Student will sign the form.

The student must declare a major on the dual enrollment
form.
THE PROCESS FOR DUAL ENROLLMENT

Student will bring the form to the College
Admissions office (on branch campuses this would
be the Enrollment office)

Admissions will enter the student’s information into
the system and give the student a College ID
number.

Student will go to Assessment and take the P.E.R.T
(if there are no SAT/ACT/FCAT scores)

Student will take P.E.R.T. scores back to high the
high school counselor.
THE PROCESS FOR DUAL ENROLLMENT

High school counselor will verify student’s test scores and
pick classes that the student needs for high school and
college. They will enter that information on the form and sign
beside each class.

Student will bring the form to the DSC Academic Advising
office of their choice.

Advisor will verify signatures, class requirements, prerequisites, test scores, etc. If there is a problem the advisor
will not sign the form. You will be referred back to your high
school counselor.
THE PROCESS FOR DUAL
ENROLLMENT

Student will be sent to registration to
register and then they will be given 2
copies of their fee invoice. One is for
the guidance counselor the other is
for the student.
ALL STUDENTS WILL BE TAUGHT TO ACCESS
THEIR FALCONNET AND FALCONMAIL
ACCOUNTS.
Students should check their Falconmail
regularly and they can access their
grade at the end of the semester using
Falconnet.
BOOKS
•
Home School and Private School students must purchase their
own textbooks.
•
Flagler county public school students will receive books from
their high school.
•
Volusia County Public School students will receive either a
book or a voucher from the high school Destiny Textbook
Coordinator.
•
Public school students must return textbooks to the high
school or they will be charged the full cost of the textbook.
