Technology clinics
- the technology clinic -concept is based upon
Tekes funding, and what the Finnish laws rule
about that funding
- if the legislation in a country does not make this
kind of funding possible, the concept has to be
different
Technology Clinics
Tool for technology transfer
A defined, existing technology area, that can
give competitive advantage to Finnish
industry (sme), but implementation is
going on too slowly
Technology Clinics
Each clinic has three main operators
Tekes
- funding
- desisions
Co-ordinator
- marketing
- contracts
- reporting
- money
Technological service
provider (or providers)
- university laboratory
- research institute
- company
Clients
- sme’s in need of new
know-how and technology
What is a Technology Clinic?
 a concept, where a company
– can test new methods and new know-how quickly and flexibly
– gets easily the results of Finnish research and the
best experience in Finland (in that particular field)
– can learn to use the services of universities and research
institutes
 shared risk
Tekes pays 50 % of the costs of an assignment
Technology Clinics
 Typical project (assignment):
– a problem, that a company is not able to solve by itself
but the matter is not large enough to be “a real r&d project”
– FIM 10 000 - 100 000 (~ 1 600 - 17 000 €)
– 1 - 3 working months
 Not separate application for Tekes
 No bureaucracy
 Reporting by coordinator
Financing
Tekes appropriates financing for a technology clinic,
so the financing of any individual assignment inside
a clinic needs only the decisions (or approval)
of the person who is responsible for that
particular clinic at Tekes.
No specific application is needed.
