Entering Stage 4 - Timetable
 Please check your timetable for both
Semesters carefully. Contact DPDs if there is a
clash.
 Modules can be changed in first 2 – 3 weeks of
each semester (DPD Request Form)
 Stage 4 versions of Stage 3 modules:
ICA as in Stage 3 but with different exams.
Advanced 20 credit modules
 Four timetabled hours per week.
 Approximately 8 tutorial hours, not necessarily in
separate hours – you should have advance warning if
part or all of a lecture slot is to be used as tutorial time.
 You should still be given adequate time to complete
assignments.
 There should be around 6 – 8 assignments in a
standard format module.
Coursework
 Late work is not accepted. Deadlines are all 4.00pm.
 If ill etc and unable to submit a piece of work, complete a
PEC Form and take to the Stage DPD.
 Extensions possible for major projects (>5% of module) –
submit a PEC form in advance of the deadline and take to
the Stage DPD.
 Tell your tutor if you have personal/ health problems that
affect your academic work.
 Most coursework is intended to be largely ‘formative’, i.e.
it is intended to help you learn the material. The marks
given for such coursework are an incentive for you to
complete the coursework, and the marks awarded for
coursework are often higher than for exam marks. You
should not expect the marks available to reflect the
amount of time spent on coursework.
Completing Stage 4
 Stage 2, Stage 3, Stage 4 weighted 1:2:3.
 You have no automatic right to an Honours degree
if you fail more than 20 credits over Stages 2, 3, 4.
 The pass mark for Stage 4 modules is 50.
 Discretion might be applied if 30 or 40 credits
failed.
 Submit PEC/Concession, if appropriate – with
evidence. Keep your tutor informed.
 Repeating a year setting aside the first attempt is
only allowed if there are very exceptional personal
circumstances, e.g. major illness.
If not awarded M degree in June
 Offered resits in August.
 Need to reply straightaway.
 Maximum award on resit is lower second class
Honours.
 Resit marks at Stage 4 count at most 50.
Staff-Student Committee
 Meets about twice a Semester to discuss any issue
affecting undergraduate students. For example
proposals to change degree programmes or problems
with a specific module.
 Usually meets at 1.30pm on a Wednesday. Lunch is
provided.
 Good thing to put on your CV.
