Overview
Made of PVC pipe and one piece
of foam
Held together with tape and hot
glue
Relies on gravitational potential
energy to get started
Marble rolls through a series of
pipes and stops after dropping
through the last pipe
Average run time is 15.3 seconds
Materials/Cost
PVC pipe…………..……………………$5.00
Wooden base……………………….…$2.00
Tape and hot glue……………..….…$3.00
1 marble…………………………………..$0.10
Foam………………………………………..$1.00
TOTAL……………………………………….$11.10
Stored Energy
Marble is dropped at the top of the roller
coaster.
Initial energy=gravitational potential
energy
Converted to kinetic energy
Conclusions
Design Complications:
1. Placing the different PVC pipes at the right angles
2. The marble falling off the edges
3. The roller coaster not lasting 15 seconds
We spent the most time figuring out how slowly
the marble could roll without actually stopping and at
which angles the pipes had to be positioned.
