ELMDALE ELEMENTARY
INTRODUCTION
In an attempt to
accommodate the academic
needs of all students,
Elmdale Elementary
placed “academically
challenged” students in a
separate group. This
group was given one on one
tutoring to increase their
academic proficiency.
Our EAST/EMPACTS
Intro to Ed team
collaborated with Elmdale
Elementary and served as
special tutors to this group
of students.
SPECIAL GROUP RATIONALE
To teach a child you have to start at the emotional
level and grow into the cognitive level. When a teacher
has a classroom full of twenty-five or more children
unfortunately there will be a child that is going to be
overlooked. The children that are usually overlooked
are the ones who can not afford to be overlooked. They
need that special one on one relationship. That is what
our group is promoting in our EAST service learning
project. Our group chose to tutor at Elmdale
elementary school. We paid attention to the “low”
students.

FUTURE PROJECTS
Elmdale Elementary would welcome any
person willing to give their time to help tutor
their students. The school is at a disadvantage
due to the lower income and any positive
inspiration for the students would be beneficial
for a brighter future.
