LAMINAR INLET
TURBULENT INLET
Fig_SMO_11_1. (Link to Dynamics and in ‘ppt’ format). The visual covers from t=0 to the instability
region (the flow is just starting pseudo-steady state conditions). This uses the first 125 saved sets of
data. The frames are at 60 time increments per set = 7,500 total time steps = 4.22 seconds of real time.
For clarity, the viewing time is slowed down from previous dynamic visuals by a factor of 10. The
velocity vectors are color coded with the colors being similar to those used for the contour plots. To aid
viewing, we use only 10 horizontal layers, 14 radial rings, and 51 angular positions so that the flow can
be seen within the field. The very low velocities in the body of the quadrants (blue) have also been
removed and the range stretched. Vectors are being used and they can extend beyond the local graphic
boarder. The jumps in the dynamic views are a result of the rescaling done by MetLab. To start, use
“Slide Show” and “From Current Slide”. ‘Esc’ key will stop animation.
