Definition of Terms
• Bullring: the arena where bullfighting
occurs
• El Matador: star bullfighter
• Los Picadores: lancers on horseback
armed with spears
• Los Banderilleros: bullfighters on foot
with barbed wooden decorated sticks
Procedure
Preliminary Phase:
El Matador assesses the bull’s agility,
intelligence, dangers, sight and
strength.
Procedure
First Stage:
Los Picadores plunge the lance into the
bull’s neck.
Procedure
Second Stage:
Los banderilleros advance to insert
barbed wooden decorated sticks into
the bull’s neck muscle.
Procedure
Final Stages:
1. El matador asks for permission to
perform and kill the bull.
2. El matador creates a series of passes
with red cape, bringing the bull closer
to his body for the eventual kill.
Procedure
The Kill:
El matador inserts his sword between
the shoulder blades(肩胛骨) and into
the bull’s heart.
Procedure
Finale:
1. If el matador performs well and
makes a clean kill, he will be awarded
the bull’s ears or tail.
2. The half-dying bull is quickly pulled
out of the arena by horses and
distributed for sale.

Before the fight, the bulls…
Get drugged with tranquilizers(鎮定劑) and
laxatives(瀉藥).
Have heavy weights hung around their necks.
Have Vaseline rubbed into eyes.
Get horns shaved.
Victims
What about the horses used in bullfights?
They are blindfolded.
They are gored.
They have wet newspaper stuffed in their
ears.
Their vocal cords(聲帶) are cut.
What Can You Do?
• Don’t visit any bullfighting.
• Don’t stay at resorts which have
bullfighting arenas as part of recreation
facilities.
• Visit the places that have banned
bullfighting. Ex: Barcelona, Tossa de
Mar

this savagery!!!
