Vanessa: Good morning, Mr. Zwingli. I hope you had a pleasant evening. Ji: I’d prefer if you both call me Ji. Well, ladies, what’s on the agenda for today? Renka: Most of the day is meetings in the office. First one is with Paul Wong. Do you remember Paul? Ji: The name rings a bell. Vanessa: Paul is in charge of logistics. He wants to go over the details of our new shipping agency. Ji: Oh! That Paul. I met him on my last trip here. Renka: And speak of the devil, here he is now. Paul: Ji. It’s been a while. How was your flight? Ji: Good to see you too, Paul. It’s always a good flight when you fly business class. (later) Ji: Those meetings were the number one reason I came on this trip. Vanessa: Sometimes a face-to-face is the only way. Paul: I’ve taken the liberty of reserving a table at Papa Dino’s Shall we? Ji: Paul, I hate to override your plans, but would you mind if we went to a night market instead? Vanessa: Wonderful idea. That way we can sample the local food. But let’s not forget we have a nine a.m. meeting at the factory. Vanessa: Morning, Ji. You look brighteyed and bushy-tailed. Renka: Unlike me! Paul called to say he was running late; he’ll meet us at the factory. Let’s take my car. If everyone is ready, we can head out (later) Vanessa: I hope this trip has been worth your while. Ji: It sure has been. Renka: We have a few hours left. Is there anything in particular you wanted to see or do? Ji: Yesterday a handicraft market was mentioned. I’d like to take some souvenirs home for the folks at the office, not to mention the family. Vanessa: You can’t go home emptyhanded. I’d be glad to help you bargain over souvenirs. Ji: And I’ve yet to see a national park. Renka: I was just about to ask. Tomorrow morning, if you’re up for it, we can take a short hike up to a scenic spot in the hills. That is unless you have other plans. Ji: None. A morning hike fits my schedule fine. Vanessa: And you’ll still have time to get back to the hotel, shower and change. We’ll make sure you catch your flight. vocabulary Scene1 Scene2 logistics 物流 face-to-face 當面的 override 推翻 Ring a bell 有印象 take the liberty of 自作主張去… Empty-handed 空手地 Have yet to 尚未 (be) up for 接受 (be) worth (one’s) while (某人)覺得值得 ◎Speak of the devil 說曹操,曹操到 ◎Bright-eyed and bushy- tailed 精神抖擻;容光煥發
