Objective 11-7: Well-Being Across the Life Span
 As we age, people either look back on their lives with satisfaction or regret.
 Many responses to questions such as, “What would you do differently if you
could relive your life?” are “taken my education more seriously and worked
harder at it.”
 From early adulthood to midlife, people typically experience a strengthening
sense of identity, confidence, and self-esteem.
 Later in life, challenges arise: Lower incomes, work is taken away, the body
deteriorates, recall fades, energy wanes, family members and friends die or
move away, and death looms ever closer.
 In 1990, Ronald Inglehart discovered with a sample of nearly 170,000 people
in 16 nations, that senior citizens over the age of 65 have reported their
happiness levels to be equal to that of younger people.
