neighbors.
Many offended by Mormons’ teachings
(polygamy)
Brigham Young moved community to Utah
West to Utah
Because of Zebulon Pike & Fremont settling in
remote areas… Mormons know of land and move
out
Mormon pioneers built shelters and plant crops
for those who followed
First settlement, Salt Lake City.
To survive in dry country, learn new ways to
farm: built dams, canals, and irrigation ditches
(this made the desert bloom).

First Americans to settle Great Basin
Pioneered farming methods
Helped settlers move west
From Salt Lake City, Mormon church grown
worldwide.
