Seasons
Why are there seasons?
• The Earth’s axis tilts 23 1/2 from the
perpendicular to the plane of the ecliptic
and always points toward the North Star.
• The Earth revolves around the Sun.
1.Daylength (=daylight period)
The longer the sun shines, the
hotter it gets!
2. Angle of Sun’s Rays
The farther the
angle is from 90º,
the more spread
out the Sun’s
energy is.
3.Penetration
(& filtration)
of
Atmosphere
• The longer the
path of sunlight
through the
atmosphere, the
greater the
filtration and the
less energy striking
the surface.
