Essay Groups




No less than 3 and no more than 4 in a group
Student groups must be determined by September
8th 1999
You pick your own group members
Decide on a group name and submit the team name
and members to the Teaching Assistants before
September 8th 1999




You will be assigned to a group if you cannot create
one, join one or have more than five or less than
three members. The selection will be random.
Essay guidelines are given in the Syllabus. If you are
not clear about the guidelines come and talk to me.

Points will be deducted if directives are not followed.
Essay Question
One focus of this course is to understand the development of
network Infrastructures and their impact on Management
Infrastructure.
We do this by examining various aspects of networks from the
standards to applications
An important aspect of the networks is the distributed object
technology such as CORBA, DCOM and RMI that are becoming
increasingly important and that is the focus of the essay.
You are to write an essay which does the following:




Present brief case studies of the use of CORBA,
DCOM and RMI in either mainstream industries
(medical, financial, telecommunications) or others
Compare and contrast the use of these technologies
and why they were either successful or not in their
deployment
Present a case where the interoperability of these
technologies is either advantageous or
disadvantageous.

Present evidence in your discussion how the various
network features presented in class support your
decisions (This could be in a discussion section)

Essay is due Tuesday November 30th 1999

No late essay submissions will be accepted

