7th year teaching, 4th with Mesa Public Schools

Graduate of Mountain View HS, Arizona State University


Skills and Grading


1st quarter: “individual skills”

scales, tone, rhythm, unification of counting styles

“How are we supposed to sound in junior high?”
2nd quarter: “whole ensemble”


balance, blend, intonation, more scales, literature, cross-curricular
connections (music history, acoustics, cultural relevance)
Grading:

4 points every day for having: music, instrument, pencil, and a great
attitude.

Written assignments: 10/25/40 points

Playing assessments: 10/25/40 points

Concerts: 150 points (includes student self-assessment)
