Milwaukee’s main street was
originally called Spring Street in the
1840s. Spring Street became Grand
Avenue around the turn of the 20th
century. In 1926, Grand Avenue was
renamed Wisconsin Avenue.

Marquette University is building a new on-campus residence for its
community of Jesuit priests, featuring 25 resident rooms, five guest
rooms, a chapel and garden space.
MU broke ground for the project Friday, August 15, 2014 and will be
dedicated this fall.

Not every campus can boast its own art
museum. Marquette University is home to
the Patrick and Beatrice Haggerty
Museum of Art, which features more than
8,000 works from Old Masters to
contemporary art.
Admission is free and the museum is open
seven days a week.

Brief History: St. Joan of Arc Chapel
Located in the middle of Marquette’s campus!
 14th or 15th Century: Constructed in southeast France;
 1926: Acquired by Mrs. Gertrude Hill Gavin, who had it
transferred to her estate on New York’s Long Island;
 1962: Estate passed into possession of Mr. & Mrs. Marc B.
Rojtman;
 1964: The Rojtmans presented the Chapel to Marquette and
had it dismantled and sent to the campus for the
university to reconstruct;
 1965: Reconstruction started in July;
 1966: Chapel was dedicated May 26.

Marquette offers a variety of club and intramural
sports opportunities. Teams compete against clubs
and schools with comparable teams. Tryouts for
these teams are open to all university students.
