Tardy Information

90% Attendance Rule, TEA form
for Driving
 According to the state of Texas, students must be present 90%




of the time in a class to receive credit for the course. Nonattendance is the #1 reason that students are unsuccessful in
their classes.
A student will be denied credit for a class when they have
accumulated 10 absences in 1st or 5th period and a total of 5
absences in either 2A/B, 3A/B and 4A/B periods.
If absents continue then the student and parent will be sent to
Truancy court .
Tutorials must be completed to regain attendance credit. This
information may be obtained with the student’s Assistant
Principal.
A student will not receive a TEA form, required for a Texas
driver's permit/license, if the student has excessive
absences. TEA forms may be requested in the front office
and require 24 hours notice for pick up.
Student Attendance Codes
 Absence codes for students:








PRN – Parent note or parent phone call on file
DRN – Doctors Note
DRA- Health Care Appointment
EXT – Extended Tardy of 10 minutes or more to class
(this will cause a discipline referral)
ABS – Student absent with no note or phone call from
parent (this will cause a discipline referral)
TRU- Truancy, student misses school/class without
parent permission (this will cause a discipline referral)
TDY- Tardy to class (this will cause a discipline referral)
All notes for absents must be turned in within 5 school
days or absent will be coded as an ABS.

Any type of absence listed below will be
considered an unexcused absence (ABS).
Examples of unexcused absences (ABS) include,
but are not limited to, class cuts, car trouble,
over sleeping, personal business, vacation, etc
ABS – Absent
TRU- Truant
EXT- Extended tardy, late to call more than 10
minutes
Tardies
 There are no excused type of tardies.
 A student has 10 tardies per 6 weeks for all
classes. The one exception to the 10 tardy
rule is if a student has accumulated 6 tardies
or more to a specific class period then the
discipline will be applied to attempt to
change the behavior.

Consequences for tardies
11th tardy: 2 Hour Saturday School
12th Tardy – 4 Hour Saturday School
13th Tardy or more – “OCS” Off Campus Suspension
