Essential Questions
 How does a forehand throw differ from a
backhand throw in Ultimate?
 What is the difference between offensive
strategies and defensive strategies associated
with Ultimate Frisbee?
HISTORY
 Ultimate was originally created by Joel Silver of
Columbia High School in New Jersey in 1968.
 Silver and friends adapted the rules of Frisbee
Football and ultimately invented the fast moving
team sport we know today as the sport of
Ultimate.
 Silver admitted that he only said this as
something of a joke and he did not foresee the
sport’s popularity taking off like it did.
 The first game of Ultimate Frisbee took place
between the School Council and The Colombian
Newspaper in 1968 which was won by the
newspaper by a score of 11-7.

At any time you are allowed to pivot on one foot.
You can only hold the frisbee for 10 seconds and
then it must be thrown to a teammate.
The defense (team not holding the frisbee) counts

The frisbee makes progress down the field by being
thrown and then caught by teammates.
All other rules remain the same.
