“We ought to have more rules,” said Ralph. “Where the conch is, that’s a
meeting. The same up there as down here.”
Jack responds, “I agree with Ralph. We’ve got to have rules and obey
them. After all, we’re not savages. We’re English, and the English are
best at everything.”
Many who have grown up in the English tradition (Americans included)
share this mindset. What are the dangers of this belief?
