Describe how the institution ensures that
rules compliance is a central element in
personnel matters for individuals outside the
athletics department who are involved in
rules-compliance activities.

Specifically, the institution must provide written evidence
that all individuals outside the athletics department who
are involved or associated with athletics (including, but not
limited to, individuals who have responsibility for
admission, certification of academic standing, evaluation of
academic performance and administration of financial aid
for SAs) have statements regarding the importance of
rules compliance in all of the following documents:

Contracts or Letters of Appointments

Performance Evaluations
c.
Job Descriptions

Your duties as POSITION TITLE are outlined in the
position description on file in the Department of
Athletics. Your continued employment at Oregon
State University is contingent upon complying with all
applicable rules and regulations of the NCAA and PAC10 Conference. You acknowledge it is your
responsibility to advise your supervisor or the
department’s Associate Athletics Director for
Compliance if you have reasonable cause to believe
violations of the rules and regulations have or will
occur. Additionally, you will be required to complete
both a request for Approval for Outside Employment
and a Report of Outside Athletically-Related Income.

outside the Athletics Department who are involved
or associated with student-athletes (SAs) must be
aware of the University’s unambiguous commitment
to comply with all NCAA regulations …

HEAD ADVISORS
• In general terms, treat SAs no different than regular OSU students
• If you have a question pertaining to an NCAA regulation – contact the
Compliance Office (737-7495)
• If there is a potential NCAA violation that you are aware of – contact the
Compliance Office
• To not intentionally violate any NCAA regulation
• Know basics associated with of NCAA Bylaw 14 (Eligibility)

• Know NCAA definition and application of what constitutes an “Extra
Benefit”
… any special arrangement by an institutional employee (and/or booster) to provide the SA (or relative/friend) with a
benefit no expressly authorized by NCAA legislation.
Receipt of a benefit by a SA (or relative/friend) is not a violation of NCAA rules if it is demonstrated that the same benefit
is generally available to all of the institution’s students (or to a non-athletics segment of students) or to the general
public.
Suggestions / Questions
• Change language in the letter? If so, will need
to act quickly.
• Any changes may need to be general in nature
so that language is applicable to all 65
positions.
