Science Safety Rules
Lab Safety Rule #1
• Never perform unauthorized experiments or
use any equipment without proper
instructions.
• Follow all instructions given by the teacher
Lab Safety Rule #2
• Do not enter the stock rooms.
• Do not work in the lab if no teacher is
present
Lab Safety Rule #3
• Goggles must be worn when eyes could
be injured.
• All spills must be
reported to teacher,
then cleaned up
Appropriately.
Lab Safety Rule #4
• Protective clothing must
be worn to protect
against burns or chemical
spills: Lab aprons
• No open shoes, sleeves
below elbows, dangling
jewelry.
• Tie back long hair.
Lab Safety Rule #6
• Consider every chemical dangerous.
• Do not inhale fumes, pipette by mouth, taste,
touch or smell any chemical unless specifically
asked by the teacher.
• If chemicals get on skin or clothing, rinse
immediately with water.
Lab Safety Rule #8
• Notify the teacher
immediately in the event of
an accident, injury or spill
• You must remain near your
table unless told to move
around the room.
• No student may touch the
safety shower or eyewash
without permission. Doing
so will result in disciplinary
action.
Lab Safety Rule #9/#10
• Never force glass tubing into a cork or stopper.
• Never point a test tube toward yourself or
anyone else.
Lab Safety Rule #11
• Only pins and
specimens are allowed
in dissecting trays.
• Instruments not in use
must remain in the kit.
• Those in use are to be
placed on a paper towel
beside the tray.
Lab Safety Rule #12
• Discard only liquids or solids when told to by
teacher.
Lab Safety Rule #13
• Keep all non-lab items away from all stations
• Your lab notebook is the only item you need.
