TESTING VOCABULARY
•
Any doubts about the advisability of testing grammar apply equally to
the testing of vocabulary. Knowledge of vocabulary is essential to the
development and demonstration of linguistic skills. But that doesn’t
necessarily mean that it should be tested separately.
•
For those who believe that systematic teaching of vocabulary is
desirable, vocabulary achievement tests are appreciated for their
backwash effect.
