CHRISTIAN WORLDVIEW
• 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel,
for it is the power of God for salvation to
everyone who believes, to the Jew first
and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the
righteousness of God is revealed from
faith for faith, as it is written, “The
righteous shall live by faith.”
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven
against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men,
who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.
19 For what can be known about God is plain to
them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his
invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and
divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever
since the creation of the world, in the things that
have been made. So they are without excuse.
21 For although they knew God, they did not
honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they
became futile in their thinking, and their foolish
hearts were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they
became fools, 23 and exchanged the glory of the
immortal God for images resembling mortal man
and birds and animals and creeping things.
2:1 Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every
one of you who judges. For in passing judgment
on another you condemn yourself, because you,
the judge, practice the very same things. 2 We
know that the judgment of God rightly falls on
those who practice such things. 3 Do you
suppose, O man—you who judge those who
practice such things and yet do them yourself—
that you will escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do
you presume on the riches of his kindness and
forbearance and patience, not knowing that
God's kindness is meant to lead you to
repentance? 5 But because of your hard and
impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for
yourself on the day of wrath when God's
righteous judgment will be revealed.
21 you then who teach others, do you not teach
yourself? While you preach against stealing, do
you steal? 22 You who say that one must not
commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You
who abhor idols, do you rob temples? 23 You
who boast in the law dishonor God by breaking
the law. 24 For, as it is written, “The name of
God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because
of you.” 25 For circumcision indeed is of value if
you obey the law, but if you break the law, your
circumcision becomes uncircumcision.
ESSENTIAL GOSPEL TRUTH
• 9 What then? Are we Jews any
better off? No, not at all. For
we have already charged that
all, both Jews and Greeks, are
under sin,
SIN: NOT LOVING GOD & PEOPLE
• 37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord
your God with all your heart and with all your
soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the
great and first commandment. 39 And a
second is like it: You shall love your neighbor
as yourself. 40 On these two commandments
depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
Matthew 22:37-40
• 15 “If you love me, you will keep my
commandments. John 14:15
• 9 The heart is deceitful above all
things, and desperately sick; who
can understand it? 10 “I the LORD
search the heart and test the mind,
to give every man according to his
ways, according to the fruit of his
deeds.” Jeremiah 17:9-10
2:1 And you were dead in the trespasses and
sins 2 in which you once walked, following the
course of this world, following the prince of the
power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in
the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we
all once lived in the passions of our flesh,
carrying out the desires of the body and the
mind, and were by nature children of wrath,
like the rest of mankind. Ephesians 2:1-3
ALL UNDER SIN
• 8 If we say we have no sin, we
deceive ourselves, and the truth
is not in us. 10 If we say we have
not sinned, we make him a liar,
and his word is not in us.
1 John 1:8, 10
10 as it is written: “None is righteous, no, not
one; 11 no one understands; no one seeks for
God. 12 All have turned aside; together they
have become worthless; no one does
good, not even one.” 13 “Their throat is an
open grave; they use their tongues to deceive.”
“The venom of asps is under their lips.”
14 “Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.”
15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood; 16 in
their paths are ruin and misery, 17 and the way
of peace they have not known.” 18 “There is no
fear of God before their eyes.”
SUMMARY
19 Now we know that whatever the law
says it speaks to those who are under the
law, so that every mouth may be stopped,
and the whole world may be held
accountable to God. 20 For by works of the
law no human being will be justified in his
sight, since through the law comes
knowledge of sin.
