Renewals can be made only until 15 December, after which date they will
be considered as new registrations.
For new EXTERNAL members (connected in some way to the JRC or the
European School), there will be a waiting list, due to the minimum number
of internal members imposed by the COPAS.
To be able to participate in any course or activity, an active membership for 2016-17 is required

Musical - “West Side Story”

Manzoni Theatre - MILAN
At the Manzoni Theatre, drinks & dinner followed by the Musical
West Side Story is a musical that debuted for the first time on
September 26, 1957 in New York. It was written by Jerome
Robbins (director and choreographer), Arthur Laurents (book),
Leonard Bernstein (music) and Stephen Sondheim (lyrics) based on a story conceived by Robbins which was modified based on
suggestions from the other authors. The story is a modern version
of the Shakespearean tragedy "Romeo and Juliet."

The Safari Park at Pombia consists of two large parks: The Animal Safari Park and the Amusement Park.
In the Safari Park one can see many wild animals roaming free, such as hippos, lions,
tigers, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes and many more besides.
It is possible to view the safari animals on board the new trains for an extra €2,00 per
person (paid at the park). There is also an aquarium, a reptile house with a collection of
poisonous snakes and other reptiles from around the world, an 'insectarium’ with spiders, locusts, cockroaches and other insects, the area "journey into the world of lemurs"
and the parrot enclosure.
In the amusement park (explored on foot) you can enjoy over 30 rides including the animal carousel for small
children, the green caterpillar, the Lion King and the Train of Happiness, the water bubbles and for older children, logs on water, the pirate ship, the 5D cinema, and the Ferris wheel. Also in the pedestrian area, live shows
are presented in the Roman amphitheatre such as "Horses and Spain," Argentine Fantasy and a live demonstration of the intelligence of parrots. Then there is a live open-air demonstration of birds of prey and flying animals
in "The Fortress of the Hawk".
Not forgetting the Jurassic Park with life-size dinosaur representations; the Botanical Oasis with giant insects,
the Educational Walk in the Woods; American bison in the Far West Farm; aviaries with birds of prey, farm animals and pony riding to delight the children.
The Safari Park is committed to rescue and treat elephants living in Borneo, through the foundation
"SOS Elephants". A part of the entrance fee goes directly to this worthy cause.

The Milan Synagogue &
the Guastalla Gardens

The Synagogue of Milan and the Gardens of Guastalla are
two important places in the urban and artistic landscape of the
city of Milan.
The Synagogue of Milan is the largest Jewish place of worship in
Milan, its construction becoming necessary in the nineteenth
century, when the Jewish community of Milan expanded and the architect Luca Beltrami was commissioned to build it. He was already known in Milan for having reorganised the Piazza della Scala and
having restored the Castello Sforzesco.
We will visit the interior of the synagogue, where we will explore various themes on Jewish culture
and religion, including the Jewish holidays, ritual objects and above all the role and history of the
Jewish community in the history of Milan.
The visit will continue to the Gardens of Guastalla, the oldest public gardens of Milan, created in 1555
at the behest of Ludovica Torelli, Countess of Guastalla, who moved to Milan after an unfortunate life.
Repeatedly reworked through centuries, the Gardens still preserve the magic that they always had,
with the pond, the large variety of botanical species and the peace that still reigns in the shade of the
tree-lined avenues.

Lake Iseo - Sebino wetlands

On the south shore of Lake Iseo, the Wetlands Nature Reserve of Sebino,
declared “Wetland area of international importance” and Special Conservation Zone in the Nature 2000 network, is considered a priority area
for biodiversity in the Po Valley in Lombardy. This is due to the variety of
habitats and species and aquatic marsh, that are of particular interest in the
area, and are rare or endangered in Lombardy and Italy. It consists of reed
beds and ponds, where the animals live in complete freedom. The area is
considered one of Europe's most important havens for bird-watching, in fact, 17 species of birds nest there.
The Monastery of San Pietro in Lamosa: the beautiful Romanesque church is in an
elevated position overlooking the west of the country across the expanse of peat bogs,
always called "lame” (blades) and this explains why one says "in Lamosa".
Today the religious complex consists of the central nave, on the north side with four chapels and a bell tower. To the South of the church is the cloister.

Dutch graphic artist and engraver.
The exhibitions aims to underline the aptitude of this intellectual artist for observing nature in a different way, from a

For 150 years of Italy-Japan friendship, a splendid exhibition
on three key exponents of ukiyo-e:
HOKUSAI, HIROSHIGE E UTAMARO.
The exhibition will display more than 200 works by these important Japanese artists, polychrome woodcuts and also illustrated books from the prestigious collection of the Honolulu Academy of Arts.
The exhibition is divided into 5 sections, in which the works of Hokusai, Hiroshige and Utama represent
the themes and subjects mainly drawn and engraved between the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
Glimpses of bridges, waterfalls, districts of Edo, Kyoto and distant provinces, mix with faces, the elegance of kimonos and the sensuality of the most beautiful women of the time.

Malika Ayane plays the legendary Evita Perón in EVITA.
In Italian for the first time, the celebrated musical written by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, inspired by the life of the unforgettable wife of the Argentine president Juan Domingo Perón.
20 years after the film starring Madonna and Antonio Banderas, this
new version of Evita promises to be very emotional. Accompanied
by a live orchestra of 18 musicians directed by Emanuele Friello,
Malika Ayane stars in this sophisticated and polished musical.

GYMNASTICS Section
The GYMNASTICS group is a section of the Budokai,
a sports association affiliated with the UISP.
The Gymnastics group organise courses and activities aimed at both adults and children.
The courses are held in the Fior di Loto gymnasium and in the Glicine room in the JCR
Club House.
The activities will start on 5 September 2016 and finish on 30 June 2017 and will follow the
calendar of the European School in Varese, with some exceptions.

Works realised from pupils of a course.
The courses comprise 6 lessons, held in Italian, which take place at the Ceramics Club of the JRC (via Esperia, 369). The price of a
course is 130 €. The courses can be held either Tuesday or Thursday mornings from 10:00 to 12:00 or in the evenings from 18:00 to 20:00. The
courses will start on Tuesday the 4nd and Thursday the 6th October.
We will teach you how to make ceramic work using several techniques, including the “Colombino” as well as the techniques using molds or layers.
It will also include first steps into sculpture modeling.
