EthicsSociety of Human Resourses Management Survey found only 27% of
employees felt organizations leadership was ethical. In a study of 1,324 randomly
selected workers, managers, and executives across
multipule indrustries
48% of respondents admitted to actually committing an unethical or illegal act in
the past year! these acts included:
 Cheating on expense reports.
 Discriminating against coworkers.
 Forging signatures.
 Paying or accepting kickbacks.
 Looking the other way when environmental laws were broken.
When people believe their work environment is ethical, they are six times
more likely to stay with that company than if they believe they work in an
unethical environment.
One study asked 573 white collar workers which of 28 qualities were
important in company leaders, the top three were:


Workplace Deviance
Workplace Deviance is unethical behavior that violates organizational norms
about right or wrong.
Production Deviance-- hurts the quality and quantity of work produced. (ex.
leaving early, extremely long breaks, intentionally working slower, or wasting
time)
Property Deviance--unethical behavior aimed at companyproperty or products.
(ex. sabotaging, stealing, or damaging equipment or products and overcharging
for services and pocketing the difference.)
Political Deviance--using one's influence to harm others in the company. (ex.
favoritism, spreading rumors, or blaming someone for mistakes they didn't
commit.)
Personal Agression--hostile or aggressive behavior towards others. (ex.sexual
harassment, verbal abuse, stealing from coworkers,or workplace violance.)
