Target Installation Agreement from ISIS
• Use DLC coated bearings.
• Inspection chamber beneath (modified) beam pipe.
• Parallel setup at RAL, always ≥ 3× as many
actuations as device on ISIS.
– Inspection chamber below target.
– Identical setup, shaft, bearings, coatings made at same
time for both.
– Parts ordered.
– A lot of work to get full test setup ready for January.
– Safety considerations.
– Where? Needs cooling water, ethernet.
– Postpones development of future system (bearings,
control, …).

Removal of old target
Latest meeting with Paul Wright yesterday.
Radiation Protection protocol ~ agreed.
Support stand being constructed (W. Spensley).
Hope to do in minor maintenance period next
week.
Removal to R40 for (later) recovery of nonradioactive parts.
(Will not be full test of procedure for highly active
target).
Cables and fibres
Installation planned.
Almost all hardware at RAL.
Outside synchrotron – S. Britnell.
Inside synchrotron – A. Nobbs.
