the crushing defeat at Salamis, Xerxes
flees back to lands in control of the Persian
empire across the Hellespont bridges

rest of the bridges shortly after finding them

outside Plataea and 80,000 Greeks
managed to defeat the Persian army
for good

victory preserved Greek ideas and
the Greeks would rebuild Athens
bigger and better than ever before
