HGA Obscuration
During equinoxes the combination of Earth’s rotation axis (where
the HGA points) and orienting SDO toward solar north causes the
solar panel to obstruct each HGA once per day.

HGA Obscuration
In essence, the
analysis neglected
the contribution of
the tilt of the
ecliptic when
determining the roll
of the observatory.
This has been corrected for the nominal mission by transmitting dual
polarizations and changing antennas when necessary. If a HGA fails
the observatory will need to fly at an offset to solar north.
