GOAL: Innovation and capability is used to create economic opportunities from sustainable farming in NTB
Themes from field analysis
• Lack of capability in soil, water, crop and cattle
management due to lack of extension expertise
and poor farmer technical knowledge
• Poor choice of crops or crop varieties
• Poor engagement of farmers with the value chain
• Poor farmer access to finance
• Lack of post-harvest systems and technology
Opportunities
• North Lombok farmers to sell fresh produce (fruit
and vegetables) to hotel
• Improve cattle production through integrating the
soy-corn-cattle dryland system
• Build essential capability in natural resource
management within Unram so that they can
‘enhance the existing extension system’
Current state
• Activity proposal is being written
• Final submission end of March
• Pending successful appraisal, activity will begin
mid 2015
• I acknowledge the tireless work of the project team
• And the support of Bupati KLU, Bupati Dompu and
the Rector of Unram
What does this mean for Unram
• Demonstrated partnership with Massey
• Capability development to attain research,
teaching and extension excellence
• Agribusiness leadership within NTB and Indonesia
• Increased international status and ranking
• Massey is committed to working with Unram to
realise these aspirations
In conclusion:
The solution to the equation
