Test Administrator Responsibilities
AzMERIT and AIMS Science

Test Administrator
Responsibilities
• Test Administrators must be employees of the
school/district/charter;
• Proctors must also be employees of the school/district/charter and
may be assigned to assist Test Administrators
• Test Administrators and Proctors must follow test administration
procedures.
• No adult can be in a testing room without having been trained and
signed a Test Security Agreement.

• For both AzMERIT and AIMS Science, it is unethical and will be
viewed as a violation for any person to:
• Capture images of any part of the tests via electronic devices
• Duplicate any part of the tests,
• Examine, read, or review the content of any portion of tests,
• Discuss any test items.
Test Security
• For both AzMERIT and AIMS Science, it is unethical and will be
viewed as a violation for any person to:
• Allow students access to any test content prior to testing,
• Allow students to share information during test administration,
• Allow students to use scratch paper during the ELA Reading
test,
• Read any part of the test to students except as indicated in the
Test Administration Directions or as part of an accommodation.
Test Security
• For both AzMERIT and AIMS Science, it is unethical and will be
viewed as a violation for any person to:
• Influence students’ responses by making any kind of gestures while
students are taking the test;
• Examples: pointing to items, holding up fingers to signify item
numbers or answer responses.
• Instruct students to go back and reread/redo responses after they have
finished their test.
• Students are given these instructions prior to testing.
• Review students’ responses,
• Read and review students’ scratch paper.
Test Security
• Test Administration Directions will be provided for each
test administration.
• Test Administration Directions must be reviewed in
advance of the testing dates.
• Test Administrator must be familiar with Test
Administration Directions prior to the day of testing.
Test Administrator Responsibilities
• Adhere to the test security procedures,
• Follow the Test Administration Directions exactly as
stated,
• Read aloud to the students the scripted directions exactly
as stated,
• Request guidance from the Test Coordinator
when unusual circumstances arise or when
uncertain about proper procedures.

• Complete the Test Administrator Certification Course in TIDE
• Confirm student accommodations and/or test setting in TIDE
• Approve AzMERIT tests only for the appropriate students

Students to be tested
• Most students enrolled in Grades 3 – 8 will be expected to take
AzMERIT tests in the content areas of English Language Arts and Math
tests at the grade level in which they are enrolled.
• New for this year -• Students taking high school level courses with an EOC test will not
be required to take the grade level test for that content area.
AzMERIT Grades 3 - 8
• Students’ grade level is not a factor in determining
whether or not to participate in AzMERIT EOC
testing.
• Students will take EOC test during the semester that
the course is completed regardless if the credit is
actually earned.
AzMERIT EOC
• Typical names for courses:
• Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior English course,
• English 9, 10, 11
• Other course names including advanced courses may be Honors, AP,
or IB
• Other non-traditional course names may be Shakespeare, Mythology
• Any English courses intended to provide students with their first three
years of high school English credit
AzMERIT EOC for Language Arts
• Typical names for courses:
• Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II
• Other course names including advanced courses may be named
Honors, AP, or IB
• Other non-traditional course names may be Integrated Math
• Any Math courses intended to provide students with their first
three years of high school Math credit
AzMERIT EOC for Math
• Students in Grades 4 and 8 are expected to test.
• High school students
• Cohort 2018 (generally tenth-grade students)
• Students who did not participate in Spring 2015
administration of AIMS Science are expected to test
• Cohort 2019 (generally ninth-grade students)
• Enrolled in life science course that is aligned to Strands 14 of the Arizona Academic Content Standard for Science
may participate in Spring 2016 administration.

• For better student performance each room should:
• Have good lighting
• Have good ventilation
• Be free from distracting noises and interruptions.
• All visual aids displayed in the testing room that could assist
students while testing must be removed or covered completely.
Preparing the Room
• Arrange student seating so that
students cannot easily see other
students’ test materials or computer.
• Test administrators should be able to
walk by each student.
• Student desks should be cleared of backpacks
and unnecessary materials prior to the
distribution of test materials.

• District Administrator or School Test Coordinator are able to
change settings and accommodation in TIDE prior to testing.

• Test Administrators must check that TA Interface is showing “Submitted”

• Student may not use any electronic device.
Ending CBT Testing
• As student completes Paper-Based Tests:
• Test Administrator must confirm that the student’s handwritten name is on the test
booklet cover and matches the name on the Student’s Pre-ID Label;
• Collect any scratch paper from the student,
• After Test Administrator has collected test booklet and scratch paper, student
may read or do classwork quietly.
• Student may not use any electronic device.
Ending AzMERIT PBT
• As student completes their AIMS Science Test:
• Test Administrator must confirm that the student’s handwritten name is on
the test book and answer document.
• Student name on the answer document matches the student’s Pre-ID Label;
• If student does not have a Pre-ID Label, demographic information must
be completed on the answer document.
• After Test Administrator has collected test book and scratch paper, student
may read or do classwork quietly.
• Student may not use any electronic device.
Ending AIMS Science
• Once students have completed testing and turned in their
AzMERIT test booklet or AIMS Science answer document, no
student or adult can go back and review, change, or correct the
test booklets for any reason.
• This includes checking for missing responses, duplicate
responses, checking for stray marks or for any other reason.
• AzMERIT test booklets and AIMS Science answer documents
will be returned for scoring as completed by the student.
