Astronomical Observation on the
sensor network
• Many explosions in our
universe!
– Gamma-ray burst
– Cataclysmic variables
• We don’t know when
these phenomena occur
• It is possible to get the
first data that the
luminosity changes by
connecting many (small)
telescopes with the
network
Missing data
GLEON 6 @ Achbold Field Station, Florida
13-14, Feb, 2008
• Buoys installed in Archbold, Erken and Sunapee (dataturbine used)
• Moore Foundation ~$2M award for supporting GLEON & CREON
• CREON Integration Meeting in PRAGMA 14.
Tools for 2010 and beyond
• Tiled display wall
• Scalable multi-core cluster equipped with many
software infrastructure connected to high
speed network
• Reference model for Laboratory Level
System(LLS)
• 3D or other immersive technology is now
developing.
– HOPE (High-definition Osaka univ. Projection
Environment) is an example.
Presented at IRNC Worksohp 2007
Recommendation for international
collaboration in cyberinfrastructure
• Develop Hubs for international collaborations which people and
technology gathers.
– PRAGMA is an exemple.
– They foster and sustain internationally collaborative science such
as telescience, GeoGrid, GLEON, etc.
– Mixture of interdisciplinary people
– People exchange including students are mostly important.
• Develop/Deploy service oriented architecture on the network
and its sustainable/operational environment in global basis.
– We need different type of service on the network such as large
volume data, realtime streaming, and secure data environment, etc.
• More data intensive application and global sensor type
applications will be coming.
