TIA continues to actively support the ITU IMT Standardization Activities by:

– Providing input on IMT-2000 technologies based on ITU-R and ITU-T Liaisons to External Organizations • Continue to actively participate in ITU-R WP 5D • Provide updates to Recommendation M.1457, along with related and non-related Recommendations and Reports – Based ITU-R WP 5D newly developed Recommendations, TIA will provide input on: • IMT and Beyond • Future Technology Trends on IMT Systems • IMT Vision – Provide updates to ITU-T on Q.1742.9, as necessary – Remaining actively engaged in IMT-Advanced development 3

Strategic Direction (1)

• TR45.5 will continue its collaboration with other Standards Organizations and Market Representatives – Continue to partner with 3GPP2 and its Organizational Partners and Marketing Representation Partners – Continue to enhance Interworking Specifications in support of other technologies (e.g., 3GPP LTE) – In the process of establishing a liaison relationship with the newly formed one M2M standards organization – Continue to work with 3GPP and ETSI on Inter-working and Card Application – Maintain cooperative relationship with Small Cell Forum and Broadband Forum, in partnership with 3GPP2, as it relates to specifications in association with 3GPP2 with 3GPP2 Small Cells – Continue to work with the CDMA Certification Forum (CCF) in an effort to commercialize minimum performance and signaling test – Continue working with CTIA on battery life measurements in association – Collaborate with other Organizations based on industry needs 6

• A few quick facts on cdma are noted and is based on information from http://www.cdg.org/ – cdma2000 has more than 626 million subscribers (includes, 1x, HRPD, cdmaOne) – As of March 15, 2013 , 3,331 into the market device type s have been introduced • Strategically, the cdma2000 family of standards will continue to: – serve operators well into the next decade – provide support for a graceful transition to next-generation wireless broadband technologies – have solutions to ensure that cdma2000 terminals, networks and roaming provide a seamless usability across cdma2000 and 4G wireless technology platforms 7

Technical Challenges

• Align CDMA Card Application Toolkit with ETSI and 3GPP • Electro-acoustic minimum performance requirements for non-traditional sound transmission devices e.g., tissue or bone conduction • Increase capacity while maintaining: – service quality and – system coverage to satisfy market demands • Enhance data throughput and reduce latency to accommodate existing and emerging data services • Significantly enhance battery life for M2M terminals • Manage MIN identifiers for M2M terminals • Reduce infrastructure power consumption • Continue to meet industry requirements for emerging markets

• TR45.5 will continue to – Develop new technologies and services – Develop standards that enhance: • Machine-to-Machine Communications • Smartgrids • Self-organization Networks (SON) – Continue to further our Green Initiative – Recognize and acknowledge emerging markets and continue to develop key requirements and feature enhancements for such markets – Work closely with regulatory bodies to provide solutions for: • Commercial alerts • Emergency notification • New frequency plans 9

TIA Subcommittees continues to develop international standards and have developed joint relations with other standards organizations
